This email was written ahead of time for autodelivery on the 12th of January. As you are receiving this- I should be flying back across the US from a California trade show. Hopefully my head is full of new knitting & yarn ideas.

You might get an additional email from me once I arrive back home cause doing this a week ahead of time is not as easy as I thought it would be- I KNOW I will want to add to this newsletter by the time I get back- so watch out!!

Entrelac Cowl

This cowl is not like the others you have knitted. The entrelac work adds so much color it will amaze all who see it. Bring circulars- size 6 or 7.

Baktus Scarf

We worked on this scarf before the holidays. Several who finished it were very proud and raved about how easy it was. Join me for a nice simple scarf project. Bring size 4 needles.

New Mittens

Stephanie will work with you to try some new and interesting mittens- from the simple Magungie mittens to her own elaborate fair isle fingerless mitts. If you did not have time to work up some mittens before the holiday- try some now. Needles will depend on the project.

Many more classes will be coming in the upcoming weeks- we have lots and lots of ideas

A January Challenge- How is it going?

Our January Challenge to knit 100 hats for the homeless is underway! I will give you an update as soon as I am back.

For this newsletter I am adding other patterns for the yarns- Encore Boucle & Rimini Rainbow.

Print out the patterns here, by highlighting the pattern itself and hitting print, or stop in for a hard copy. Lets show that we can knit 100 hats for distribution in our community. This is a very worthwhile project, so please help me show just what a great bunch of knitters can do!

Remember-as an added incentive- for every hat brought in- we will add your name to a drawing for a prize to be awarded at the end of January. Not sure what it will be yet- a gift certificate, ball winder, needle set- Amanda and I will come up with something well worth winning.

We will be putting appropriate yarns on sale throughout the month ( this week is Encore Boucle on sale at 10% off) and will provide the patterns freely.

Only 1 rule: To get your name into the drawing- please use yarn from the Knitter's Edge. We will accept hats knitted in other yarns- as the need for these items goes far beyond our need to sell yarn, but we feel it is fair to restrict the prizes to our customers. We will have lots of yarns available at low to bargain prices so this will not be a hardship for anyone.

January Challenge Hat Pattern- Encore Boucle

Encore Boucle or Rimini Rainbow

Rolled Brim Hats for Adults

MATERIALS: 2-50g balls of Rimini Rainbow, or 1 ball Encore Boucle; 16" circular needle size US 15, set of double pointed needles size US 11 or 13, and 1 stitch marker.

GAUGE: 2 stitches = 1 inch over st st.

Loosely cast on 48 sts onto circular needle, place marker, and join, being careful not to twist the stitches. Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 9", ending at the marker.

Begin decreasing on the following round as follows, changing to double pointed needles when needed:

Round 1: * (Knit 6, k2tog): repeat from * around..

Round 2: Knit even around.

Round 3: * (Knit 5, k2tog); repeat from * around.

Round 4: Knit even around.

Round 5: * (Knit 5, k2tog); repeat from * around.

Round 6: * (Knit 5, k2tog); repeat from * around.

Round 7: * (Knit 5, k2tog); repeat from * around.

Round 8: * (Knit 5, k2tog); repeat from * around.

Round 9: * (Knit 5, k2tog); repeat from * around.

Cut the yarn leaving a 12" tail, thread it through the remaining stitches, draw up tightly and secure. Weave in the ends.
