This Week at

The Knitter's Edge

As summer moves forward, we are continuing to have a wonderful time at The Knitter's Edge. The heat doesn't bother us inside and it is so nice to see our customers' look of appreciation as they enter the shop and are hit with the nice cool air. It is indeed comfortable in here.

This past weekend we experienced the joy and pride that comes when a group of knitters- new to the shop- discover us for the first time. We were visited by a group from NJ out for the day on a yarn road trip. They came, they saw, they stayed. Their enthusiasm was a wonderful thing to see and it did indeed give me great pride to know that I had something to do with creating the experience that they were sharing.

I think we made some new friends and I hope they enjoyed the day as much as we did.

We are very glad they came.

Afghan Square Challenge

For those of you who have already participated in this project- I thank you. But I need more squares. So until the end of the month- I will provide you with any square pattern you desire to make a 12" square out of Encore for this wonderful charity project. See me for details.

What's New?

New From Blue Ridge Yarns

We have just received a delightful collection of colors in a very soft merino sock yarn called Footprints. Each yarn "Kit" contains a large hank of a handpainted colorway as well as a small hank of a coordinating solid to be used for heels and toes. Make a pair of fun socks this summer.

Eileen took the blue/purple with the lime accent yarn to knit a pair for her class. I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

Nightime Crochet continues this week!

CROCHET!

Beginning Crochet with Pat continues on Tuesday nights from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. She will also be starting a daytime crochet class- all levels of crochetters welcome. Class will be held on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 - 12:00, BEGINNING THIS WEEK on July 21.

For those already signed up for the evening classes- please bring a size G or H hook if you have one, We supply the yarn to start. We also have hooks available at the shop for purchase.

Here is a simple beginner's project Pat will be starting this week- on Tuesday night, and on Wednesday morning. He is a cute little guy crocheted with worsted weight yarn.

Joe Penguin Kits are being assembled and will be available for sale starting tonight Tuesday July 20.

Blue Heron Has Arrived!

The owners of BLUE HERON YARN visited last week and left us with a large pile of fantastic yarns. We have 3 yarns: Rayon Metallic, Soft Twist Rayon, and Egyptian Mercerized Cotton (1000 yd hanks). These are absolutely beautiful yarns and you will get the very best selection if you can make it in as soon as possible.

Washcloths on the Couch with JoAnne

Due to popular demand, I will now be doing a washcloth class every Tuesday evening. Truth is, I tried to cancel last week because there were 3 large classes being conducted that night, but my washcloth knitters showed up anyway. I am so glad they can't take no for an answer. So, from now on every Tuesday evening there will be a washcloth class on the couch and I promise you some great projects will be coming up!

This Tuesday we will be doing the cloth shown here, or a simpler version for the beginners present. Bring size 7 double pointed needles and you will eventually need a 24" circular size 7. A 16" circular size 7 would be a help, but not necessary. Also needed are 4 stitch markers.

NOTE: This washcloth will also be available on Thursday morning.

Washcloths with JoAnne

This is a washcloth????

This is a photo of the project we will be starting this week in the washcloth class. It is time for these now experienced knitters to try their handas at something beyond washcloths.

It may look like a blob now, but will folds up to become a baby sweater! This is Elizabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Jacket. A wonderful project and the washcloth class is ready for it. 3 balls of a self striping yarn called Duo Plus will make this sweater. Yarn is a 50/50 blend of cotton and wool and it is soft as can be. Duo Plus is available in 6 colors and specially priced at $5.00 a ball. Join us this Thursday morning to start this sweater. It will take a few weeks to finish it so we will still feature a washcloth each week to add variety to the class. Bring a 24" needle size 5 or 6, and 2 removable stitch markers ( the little plastic safety pins work great!) for the sweater.

Fair Isle Stocking with Eileen

Eileen's Saturday afternoon Sock class is a Christmas in July stocking class this month. Bring size 6 DPNS, or 2 circulars.

Use the 2 handed Fair Isle techniques you learned for Linda Miller to speed up your Fair Isle work! There is still time to make your own Christmas stocking.

ANNOUNCEMENT: This stocking project has been so well received that Eileen has expanded it to be available in any of her classes. We have the yarn and the pattern- just bring the needles.

Knitting with Steph

You can also work on one of Steph's projects- in either of her classes- Wednesday afternoon or evening with JoAnne (this week only!) or Friday mornings with Steph.

Steph is once again teaching this Fair Isle Tam Class- Knit in Cleckheaton Country 8 Ply- this hat never uses more than 2 colors in a row. With a great sale price on this yarn- you can knit this beauty at a very good price with some wonderful yarn.

You can also start working on a hedgehog like Steph made.

PS: I will be doing Steph's Wednesday classes this week! Warning, warning...
