All Baby Alpaca Grande- 25% off!!

Baby Alpaca Grande is on sale this weekend for 25% off!

That's ALL Baby Alpaca Grande- Solids, Handpaints, Glow, Tweeds- ALL OF THEM!!  All at an amazing 25% off!

HUGE selection available!

And to make your purchase of Baby Alpaca gGande even more rewarding- we have several free patterns available for you to try.

Grande BC scarfThe one most near and dear to my heart is my Little Emily's very first pattern: She knit the soft pink Baby Alpaca Grande double stranded on a size 15 needle for a very fast project: a keyhole scarf.  One hank is all that you need.  Get this pattern free at the shop with your yarn purchase.

 Grande garter st scarf

I have finally written up the pattern for this long garter stitch scarf.  Very easy knitting- good for beginners.  The elongation of the garter stitches is achieved by stretching the scarf when wet.  It looks really neat!

We also have many other wonderful patterns- some free ones too- just ask.

Glow beret

Try this cute beret knit in Grande Glow- for a hint of glitz.  Ask for pattern F349 free with your yarn purchase.

 Iris pix

We are very pleased to announce that on Saturday, Oct 29 we will hosting a very special visit by Artyarns founder and designer Iris Schreier.

She will be coming to The Knitters Edge for a full day of Ultimate Knitting.

  artyarns Multi scarf

During the morning Iris will be hosting a trunk show and doing free informal demonstrations of her P114 Multidirectional Scarf using a unique unraveling method.

The pattern will be available free that day with your Beaded Silk & Sequins purchase.

(Normally a $6 retail pattern).  The beads and sequins really pop in this design. You can also use Beaded and Sequined Mohair.  Bring size 10 needles for this scarf.

ruanaIn the afternoon Iris will be holding a workshop class teaching students how to make her Chevron Ruana.

This project is great for all knitters. It uses Silk Rhapsody Light, a delectable combination of silk and mohair that knits up a feather-light jacket that is heaven to wear. This is a really fun and easy class, and a great introduction to multidirectional knitting techniques.
The morning sessions are very informal and free with the yarn purchase.
The afternoon session (which is full) will be an Full workshop class-  3 hours in length- starting at 1:00.  You will need to purchase your yarn ahead of time, and there is homework!!

The Great Race

We have a battle brewing at The Knitters Edge:

Face Off

The Wallaby is one of the most beloved patterns in all of knitting.  It is a hoodie type pullover- complete with a front kangaroo pocket.    It is knit in the round from the bottom up.

So how much further have they gotten??

Update:  10/20/11

Well its been another tough week:  Here's Amanda's:

Amanda 1020This is a very blurry extreme close up shot of a single stitch- why??? Cause thats all Amanda had time to get done.  She has been working so very hard this week getting things set up for our 2 big upcoming events: Visits with Jenny Watson and Iris Schreier.   No time to knit.  So I will go easy on her this week.

Now for Emily:

Emily stopped working on her Wallaby body once she got the pocket fused back on.  She has now started work on her sleeves- choosing to work them at the same time as Amanda did, but worked flat instead of in the round or on 2 circs.  Working them flat can be faster for some people (such as me) who can work faster on straights than on double points.  Emily will have to sew them up prior to joining them to the body.

We are holding a Wallaby class on Monday afternoons- 1:00 - 3:00 pm.   Debra will soon be taking over the class, but I will be there as well.  We just got started, so join up now and make a Wallaby with us.

Unwind has 2 meanings...

Sue's cat ASue's cat B

We love the yarn from The Knitter's Edge....well, they said to "unwind" didn't they?  We help with Mommy's stash when she's

at classes!!!

Staff Favorites

I am starting a new column regarding Staff Favorites.  Several of the staff of The Knitters Edge have been in this business for a long time- and have been knitters even longer.  We each have our favorite products- from yarns to needles to knitting bags.

I am going to start with myself, and each week I will interview another staff member- lets see how wide a range of favorites we have!

north country cottonMy favorite yarns are cottons by far- especially unmercerized or lightly mercerized ones.  The process of mercerization makes a cotton stronger, firmer, shinier, and less fuzzy.  I love the softness of cotton, so my prefernce is for the lightly mercerized one.  My favorite cotton of all time is a now discontinued product from Cherry Tree Hill called North Country Cotton.  I will always be on the lookout for a similar product- and when I find it- we will have it at The Knitter's Edge

crystal palaceFor needles- I have always been particularily fond of Crystal Palace needles.  The warm resin finish on these needles makes for a sleek ride for the stitches.

Atenti bag BNow for a Knitting Bag- I love an open bag- one that will stand up- with a large opening- all one its own.  I seem to judge a bag by how well it will stand open on the ground at my feet at a baseball game.  If it flops over so I can't pull on the yarn- then its a "no go" for me.  I have found that the Doctors style bags from Atenti seem to fit my need pretty well.

Next week- I am going to interview Eileen and see what she likes best.  My guess is that lace will be involved.
