Unwind This Week ... at
The Knitter's Edge

The ruffle yarn craze is continuing strong, we sell them as fast as we get them on the shelves.

We received 3 new scarf yarns last week, and 3 more new ones this week.

For these ruffle yarns- well no pattern is really needed, but please know that we will teach you how to work them up- most needing no more than 2-3 minutes.  They are that easy!

Remember Ruffle potato chips?  You couldn't eat just one- and you can't knit just one of these scarves either.  Check out the wide variety we have.

Make sure you do not miss Lauren Loefflers Felted bag class on Wednesday night!  Lauren is a terrific teacher- very knowledgeable and full of felting ideas.

CLASSES- Right Up Front

New classes just keep on coming!

Remember, in our classes-you can always do your own thing!

Here is where you will find information on whats going on in both our regular and specialty classes.  What new projects are being tackled?
All regular classes are $6.00- Cash only please.

General Knitting classes - work on your own project if you wish! When you are a class member- we welcome you to return at any time for additional assistance. We will always help any knitter get through a project- we are great at hand holding, while encouraging you to move forward in your knitting knowledge.

For classes, we hope that your yarn supplies will be purchased at our shop.

Wednesday March 28- 6:30 - 8:30 pm

New Felted Clutch with Lauren

Lauren Loeffler is coming back!  And she has a new pattern to share with us.  Lauren's new clutch bag takes only 3 balls of Galway and is held closed by a magnetic snap (which we sell).  This is a fast felting project.

Lauren's class is very special- we don't get her very often and we are quite fortunate when we do.  She will offer up any of her felted bag patterns for you to use- such as her messenger bags and her Mary bag.  The New Dani Clutch is quite special as well.

After class you will have an opportunity to purchase additional Galway for another bag at a very specail discount price set for the class participants only.

Please call to sign up.

In early April, Lauren will be back for a needle felting class.  Get your felted bag done now so you will have a "canvas" for your needle felting!

Tuesday March 27   6:30 - 8:30 pm

Crochet Fair Isle with Milly

Crochet Fair Isle???  I have never heard of that!  Well, Milly has come up with a way and she is willing to share her new found knowledge.

Take a look at what Milly has created here.   This is a great way to use up  your stash.  Only a knowledge of single crochet is needed.  Wow- how's that for easy!

Milly asks that you bring at least 2 colors in the worsted weight yarn of your choice, plus a size H crochet hook.

Tuesdays 4:00 - 6:00 pm Continuing March 27

This is one of the fastest growing classes we have. Amy is terrific and she is showing how much fun crochet can be!

Chlo is the type to make lemonade out of lemons every chance she gets. Her positive outlook is bound to rub off on her sheep Spud at some point.

REMEMBER:  These projects are only suggestions- you can work on whatever you wish while in class.
Thursday March  29

Wednesday afternoons with Eileen

Eileen's Wednesday afternoon class (4:00 - 6:00) has chosen to work on a sampler afghan themselves!

Here is Eileen's latest square- not blocked yet, so Eileen and I are holding it out flat; but you can tell how lovely it is.  Below see some of her other squares.  This is a great long term project- join in anytime.

New Ruffle Yarns

3 New scarf yarns just arrived!   2 of them are new colors in familar type of ruffle yarn, but one is a whole other ball game!

We have a large stock in each of therse 3 new ones- many colors available.

Joy Ruffle and Joy Metallic are the basic Triana style of ruffle yarn- they become an open mesh with set track holes along the top edge.

Joy Metallic

Scandalicious is a wide preknit panel of color, softness, and glitz.

This beauty knits up the quickest of all- we'll show you how!

Product of the Day

At the shop we have a great feature-

Product of The Day.

Each day we will display a different product- sometimes something new, other times something you may have missed.  Watch for our featured product- each day at The Knitter's Edge.

For Tuesday- Noro Silk Garden

See the great 4 ball scarf pattern by Jarod Flood in the free pattern section below.

This blend of Silk and Merino wool works well in so many projects.  Lately, we have even seen knitters working up the Wingspan with this classic yarn from Noro.

For Wednesday-   Walker bags

Our walker bags have been a favorite with our customers since the first time they arrived.  Almost indestructable holders for your yarn, projects, or patterns.

For Thursday- Mulberry Silk-

10% off all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!

What an absolutely lovely pure silk.  2 to 3 balls will make up any of these shawls.  Knit up the most beautiful luxurious Summerflies you have ever seen- a Mulberry Silk delight!

Little Shells

Little Shells is a petite shawlette which is a good choice for first time lace knitters.  2 balls will do it.

Little Arrowhead shawl

And finally for the more experienced lace knitter try the Little Arrowhead shawlette-  some real artwork by Pam Allen.

We are featuring Mulberry by Louisa Harding on sale at 10% off for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Just Arrived!

New yarns and accessories are arriving daily.

Besides the 3 new Ruffle yarns that have just arrived, we have these new offerings:

Ayatori by Noro

Ayatori is a blend of Merino and Silk, but it feels as soft as a cloud of cotton puffs.  We were really surprised as many of these colorful Noro yarns have a harder hand.  This is very lovely to feel, and even lovlier to knit.  The colors are very springlike.  We have sold it for the Wingspan shawl already.

Check out the colors at the KFI website:

Renda Trico

Tecido trico

Now these are some VERY interesting new ruffle yarns:

Renda Trico and Tecido Trico.  You have got to see these in person!  These are truly different!

These 2 new "yarns" really do set a new standard.  They work up as ruffle yarns, but produce a really different look- pure lace.

Check out these 2 website addresses for the color cards.  We have every color available.

3rd Annual Retreat Scheduled

From Laura Howell

Greetings, all!

I am very happy to let you all know that we will be undertaking our THIRD ANNUAL Retreat Day .  A day of Crafting &  Quiet Reflection Day. This year, we will be holding it on Monday, May 14, from 10:00-3:00. Again, the wonderfully welcoming Sisters at the St. Francis Renewal Center (Bridle Path Rd in Bethlehem) will be hosting us. There is no charge to attend this day, thanks to the Sisters' generosity. They want to thank us for the charity crafting we do throughout the year.

However, we do ask you to consider having lunch with us, and making a donation to the retreat center, which brings in a little for these generous women. Lunch is $12.00. But you are also welcome to brown-bag if you prefer--the grounds are lovely for picnic-ing in.

JoAnne from The Knitters Edge, our sponsor, will be with us. She will bring enough cotton yarn and patterns for us to make bibs (both knitted and crocheted) for the babies of the Nurse Family Partnership. I'll be there, of course, with knitting and crocheting related music and readings. There will be time to chat, and time to meditate, and time to craft together.

You MUST pre-register, so we can be sure to have room and enough supplies (we get bigger every year!). You also MUST tell us if you are planning to lunch with us, so the chef will make enough food. The lunches are always very well done, and a real treat.

Send me your name, email address or phone number, and whether or not you'll be having lunch. My email is

VERY EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL! Feel free to forward this to your crafting friends.

(The Rev.) Laura Howell

PS from JoAnne- I can also take names at The Knitters Edge- I have started a list.  Laura and I will compare lists weekly so you will not be missed or double counted.    We have had 2 very enjoyable days in the past.  I look forward to our 3rd annual retreat, knowing it will be as wonderful a day as in the past.  Please join us.

A new pattern for you

This free pattern on Ravelry is an absolute favorite.  It is attributed to Jarod Flood who wrote it up for all to use.  It takes 4 balls of Noro Silk Garden- a yarn we carry and have  in many colorways.

Noro Striped Scarf

Pattern: Generic 1x1 Ribbed Striped Scarf (See details below)
Materials: Noro Silk Garden; 2 balls color A, 2 balls color B
Needles: US 7 needles
Dimensions: Approximately 5.5 inches in width and just over 6 feet in length, unblocked

The scarf is worked over an odd number of stitches in 1x1 ribbing which, in my opinion has two big benefits: the scarf is reversible and behaves very well (no curling) while also plumping up into a thick fabric that will look suspiciously like stockinette if you leave it unblocked. I cast on 39 stitches using US 7 needles to get a width of about 5.5 inches. On scarves of this nature I prefer to work a slipped stitch edging which adds a nice, polished touch and perfectly hides the working yarn as you carry it up the sides whilst striping to your heart's content. I worked two-row stripes using two different colorways of Silk Garden, slipping (purlwise) the first and last stitch on the second row of every stripe.

We have been strongly suggesting that you use Ravelry to find more pattern ideas.   We do the same.  Now I would like to suggest that we pool our resources and find some of the best new pattern ideas together.

I am starting a new thread on our The Knitter's Edge page- where I would love for all of you to post new pattern ideas that you have found on Ravelry.  Free patterns would be the best as those are offered up to everyone.  You all know the yarns we carry- help us find more great new patterns for our products.

Go to The Knitters Edge group page on and post photos or comments.  Start your own thread and tell us whats going on in your class.

What our customers are knitting...

Christine just completed her first cardigan after learning some very good finishing techniques.  Fine project- very nice job.

New Kits Available

A new Kit is available this week:  The Easter Egg Hotpad.

This kit contains enough Fantasy Naturale Cotton to make a double stranded hotpad.  It is thick and perfect for insulating the dining room table from that Easter dinner side dish.

Another new Kit is now available-  at a very low price.

Make this cute little bunny- He's about 4" tall including his ears.  The kit contains the pattern and enough Encore Chunky to knit the bunny.

We have prepared kits in several very springlike colors.

You just need to add stuffing and size 7 double pointed needles.

Whats in the Pool?

  BABY ALPACA BRUSH -- $5.00 a ball

Baby Alpaca Brush has been a favorite at The Knitter's Edge for awhile.  Whenever we get a bit, it goes fast.  This weekend we have a pool full!   This is a chunky gauge yarn that is incredibly lightweight- very lofty!  Pure Baby Alpaca with just a bit of acrylic to hold all the fluff together.  This makes up well into scarves, shawls, and sweaters.  With your purchase of Baby Alpaca Brush, you can get any one of these 3 patterns.

This pattern is written in one size but you can lengthen it as you wish to make it longer for a older child or adult.

This capelet is a 3 ball winner.

An easy pattern that works up quickly.  Perfect for anyone to wear.

This is a scarf for any beginner to make.  Easy stitches will whip up 3 balls into a wonderful early fashion accessory  for fall.

We also think the bunny will work up nicely with Baby Alpaca Brush.
