Unwind This Weekend ... at
The Knitter's Edge

As we go into this holiday weekend, we hope that everyone has time to spend with friends and family.   We also hope you will save some time to come see us - and bring your visitors as well.  Share the love of yarn!

To everyone we wish a Happy Easter and Happy Passover.

Our biggest news for the upcoming week is that we will have a new class next week- Wednesday, April 11 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Lets Explore Ravelry!  Bring your laptop or Ipad and tie into our wireless.  Karen has agreed to help me teach you how to navigate this terrific website.  I do not profess to know everything about Ravelry, but Karen is far better than I am, and together I think we can help you learn how to use this valuable yarn tool.

This is a FREE class session.  You can stop by anytime during the evening.  We will be on the couch.

If this works well, we will have more training sessions in the coming weeks.

All regular classes are $6.00- Cash only please.

General Knitting classes - work on your own project if you wish! When you are a class member- we welcome you to return at any time for additional assistance. We will always help any knitter get through a project- we are great at hand holding, while encouraging you to move forward in your knitting knowledge.

For classes, we hope that your yarn supplies will be purchased at our shop.

Crochet Fair Isle with Milly

Crochet Fair Isle???  I have never heard of that!  Well, Milly has come up with a way and she is willing to share her new found knowledge.

Take a look at what Milly has created here.   This is a great way to use up  your stash.  Only a knowledge of single crochet is needed.  Wow- how's that for easy!

Milly asks that you bring at least 2 colors in the worsted weight yarn of your choice, plus a size H crochet hook.

Baby Sweater with Lori

Next week Lori will be starting a new baby sweater- this is a multidirectional garment-  with a one piece construction.  There's a lot of learning here!  This will be fun.  You will need worsted weight yarn- (200g) and size 7 or 8 needles.  The sweater as shown will fit 3-6 months.

This week: Eileen's classes.

Everyone just adores the Linen Stitch Scarf knit in Koigu.  We have come up with a fast way for you to learn to work the Linen Stitch with ease- by making a bookmark!  In any of Eileen's classes this week- knit up this project while gaining the expertise to do the scarf.  Bring about 10g of a sock yarn- or use one of our 10g balls for only $1.00 ( while they last).

Dottie's Linen Stitch Scarf is so pretty, it has enticed so many people to try it!  Now try a bookmark first to learn the method.

This is one of the fastest growing classes we have. Amy is terrific and she is showing how much fun crochet can be!

ALSO- please note...  Amy encourages all to work on a crochet project of their own choice.  The featured project of week is just a suggestion- and its usually a fun one too.

NOTE from Joe:

Joe would really like to do a group project.  His idea is to try felted house slippers (big felted socks).  These can easy for those who are beginners, or embellished with cables or Fair Isle to challenge those who are more advanced knitters.

Charity Knitting for The Bethlehem Library

Pints 'n' Purls will be collecting knit and crocheted e-reader cozies to donate to the Bethlehem Area Public Library throughout the month of April. BAPL will sell these cozies at the library and plans to put the proceeds toward their Room To Grow initiative to add a new children's center. The charity knit-a-long kicked off Monday, April 2 at the Bethlehem Brew Works. Marielle, the PnP organizer, will be collecting cozies every Monday night at the Brew Works. We will be collecting the cozies at The Knitter's Edge as well. When handing in cozies, please be sure to include your name -- Marielle will be holding a random drawing on Monday, April 30 for a mystery prize and you get an entry for every cozy submitted. Good luck and thanks for participating!

Retreat

From Laura Howell

Greetings, all!

I am very happy to let you all know that we will be undertaking our THIRD ANNUAL Retreat Day .  A day of Crafting &  Quiet Reflection Day. This year, we will be holding it on Monday, May 14, from 10:00-3:00. Again, the wonderfully welcoming Sisters at the St. Francis Renewal Center (Bridle Path Rd in Bethlehem) will be hosting us. There is no charge to attend this day, thanks to the Sisters' generosity. They want to thank us for the charity crafting we do throughout the year.

However, we do ask you to consider having lunch with us, and making a donation to the retreat center, which brings in a little for these generous women. Lunch is $12.00. But you are also welcome to brown-bag if you prefer--the grounds are lovely for picnic-ing in.

JoAnne from The Knitters Edge, our sponsor, will be with us. She will bring enough cotton yarn and patterns for us to make bibs (both knitted and crocheted) for the babies of the Nurse Family Partnership. I'll be there, of course, with knitting and crocheting related music and readings. There will be time to chat, and time to meditate, and time to craft together.

You MUST pre-register, so we can be sure to have room and enough supplies (we get bigger every year!). You also MUST tell us if you are planning to lunch with us, so the chef will make enough food. The lunches are always very well done, and a real treat.

Send me your name, email address or phone number, and whether or not you'll be having lunch. My email is lauramh@gmail.com.

VERY EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL! Feel free to forward this to your crafting friends.

Peace,

Laura+

(The Rev.) Laura Howell

lauramh@gmail.com

PS from JoAnne- I can also take names at The Knitters Edge- I have started a list.  Laura and I will compare lists weekly so you will not be missed or double counted.    We have had 2 very enjoyable days in the past.  I look forward to our 3rd annual retreat, knowing it will be as wonderful a day as in the past.  Please join us.

YARN BOMBING

Yarn Bombing- really up high- 2500 feet above sea level- 2.6 miles from Santa Barbara, CA.- Check this out at:

 http://12for2012.wordpress.com/

Yarn Bombing in California

One of our customers passed this along:

Plans are in the works to yarn bomb a Eucalyptus Tree 2.6 miles from the trailhead on the Cold Spring Trail (East Fork) in Santa Barbara, CA. It stands approximately 2,500 feet above sea level and because it is at the edge and surrounded by low desert scrub brush, it can be seen from a distance.

For those who are concerned, no damage will be done to the tree and they have a permit under the "Visual Arts in Public Places" code from Santa Barbara.

RAVELRY

This week I have a new idea to share.  In a couple of weeks we are planning on starting a Mystery Shawl Knit A Long.  This could be a blast.    We are waiting for our HUGE order of MadelineTosh ToshVintage to come in.  The pattern I have chosen needs a worsted weight yarn- about 425-450 yards.  Prints or solids will both work fine.  Watch for more info!

Go to The Knitters Edge group page on ravelry.com and post photos or comments.  Start your own thread and tell us whats going on in your class.

Also- stop by our free class next Wednesday- April 11 to learn more about finding your way through ravelry. 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Thanks

What our customers are knitting...

Karen knit up these 2 spring berets.  The green one is called Springtime beret and is worked up in a worsted weight yarn from her stash.  The blue on is very similar but a bit smaller.  It is also worked in a worsted weight yarn, but at a tighter gauge.  This one she knit out of Berroco comfot.  It is called the Meret.

 Kits Available through this weekend
