Unwind This Weekend ... at
The Knitter's Edge

As we go into this holiday weekend, we hope that everyone has time to spend with friends and family.   We also hope you will save some time to come see us - and bring your visitors as well.  Share the love of yarn!

To everyone we wish a Happy Easter and Happy Passover.

Our biggest news for the upcoming week is that we will have a new class next week- Wednesday, April 11 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Lets Explore Ravelry!  Bring your laptop or Ipad and tie into our wireless.  Karen has agreed to help me teach you how to navigate this terrific website.  I do not profess to know everything about Ravelry, but Karen is far better than I am, and together I think we can help you learn how to use this valuable yarn tool.

This is a FREE class session.  You can stop by anytime during the evening.  We will be on the couch.

If this works well, we will have more training sessions in the coming weeks.

CLASSES- Right Up Front

New classes just keep on coming!

Remember, in our classes-you can always do your own thing!

Here is where you will find information on whats going on in both our regular and specialty classes.  What new projects are being tackled?
All regular classes are $6.00- Cash only please.

General Knitting classes - work on your own project if you wish! When you are a class member- we welcome you to return at any time for additional assistance. We will always help any knitter get through a project- we are great at hand holding, while encouraging you to move forward in your knitting knowledge.

For classes, we hope that your yarn supplies will be purchased at our shop.

Tuesday March  April 10  6:30 - 8:30 pm

Needle Felting with Lauren

4 seats still open!

Lauren Loeffler is coming back again next week- for a class on needle felting.  This class always sells out fast, so call and get signed up soon.  You will want to have a felted bag or bowl to needle felt onto.

If you don't have a canvas already,  you can purchase a small "blank" zippered bag to use.  These are really cute.

Please call to sign up.

Tuesday April 10   6:30 - 8:30 pm

Jan's class on the couch

The Zinnia Cloth

The Zinnia cloth will teach you a lot about  short rowing.  You will need a half ball of Fantasy Naturale for the main color.  We can supply the small amount of contrast color you need for the center.  Bring size 7 needles.

Wednesdays continuing April 11 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Crochet Fair Isle with Milly

Crochet Fair Isle???  I have never heard of that!  Well, Milly has come up with a way and she is willing to share her new found knowledge.

Take a look at what Milly has created here.   This is a great way to use up  your stash.  Only a knowledge of single crochet is needed.  Wow- how's that for easy!

Milly asks that you bring at least 2 colors in the worsted weight yarn of your choice, plus a size H crochet hook.

New technique classes-

Monday afternoon- 1:00 - 3:00 pm with JoAnne

April 9: Seaming- Class is full

April 23:  Cast ons & Bind offs

April 18:  Seaming Class- 6:30 - 8:30 pm

I will be starting with a Seaming class on April 9 and continuing on April 23 with a cast on and bind off class.  These are individual classes- you can sign up for one or both.  And more technique classes are coming too!

These are good classes if I don't say so myself!  You will learning something- I guarantee it!  In the April 9 class you will learn how to make your garments look more professional.  In the April 23 class you will learn several ways to cast on sts and bind them off, and when to best use each method.

NOTE:  I have just added a second seaming class since the April 9 class filled.   Wednesday, April 18  6:30 - 8:30 pm. This class will be limited to 8 students.

More classes will follow!

Please call to sign up!  I will be holding these classes in our largest classroom so more students can attend.

Tuesdays April 10   4:00 - 6:00 pm

Baby Sweater with Lori

Next week Lori will be starting a new baby sweater- this is a multidirectional garment-  with a one piece construction.  There's a lot of learning here!  This will be fun.  You will need worsted weight yarn- (200g) and size 7 or 8 needles.  The sweater as shown will fit 3-6 months.

This week: Eileen's classes.

Everyone just adores the Linen Stitch Scarf knit in Koigu.  We have come up with a fast way for you to learn to work the Linen Stitch with ease- by making a bookmark!  In any of Eileen's classes this week- knit up this project while gaining the expertise to do the scarf.  Bring about 10g of a sock yarn- or use one of our 10g balls for only $1.00 ( while they last).

Dottie's Linen Stitch Scarf is so pretty, it has enticed so many people to try it!  Now try a bookmark first to learn the method.

April 12- Thursday 1:00 - 3:00 pm

NEW Beginner crochet class with Amy

Next week Amy will be working on an afghan square called the Alternate Puff Stitch square.  This can also be a great washcloth.  Bring some Fantasy Naturale (or the worsted weight yarn of youre choice) and a size H hook.

This is one of the fastest growing classes we have. Amy is terrific and she is showing how much fun crochet can be!

ALSO- please note...  Amy encourages all to work on a crochet project of their own choice.  The featured project of week is just a suggestion- and its usually a fun one too.

Saturday April 7-  10:00 - 12:00 with JoAnne

We are going to have a catch up day!

Work on whatever project you wish.  As its a holiday week for so many, I don't want to start a new project.  Let's gain some ground on our UFOs on Saturday.

Wednesdays with Linda Miller

10:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 3:00

Next week Linda will be starting to teach a new sideways scarf/cowl knit in Feather & Fan.

She knit this cowl in our new Ayatori by Noro.  The soft hand and springlike colors make for a great warm weather cowl.  For a more Fall look, you can work this cowl in the new Silk Garden Lite.  Bring a 24" circular size 5 or 6.

Monday April 9-- 10:00 - 12:00 pm

Class with Jackie

Jackie is going to start working on an Entrelac scarf next week- using weither our new Ayatori or Silk Garden Lite.  Bring size 6 needles.

Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 pm Continuing April 12

Men's Class

We have started a men's class! Joe- a local knitter, Pints & Purls attendee,  and raveler has agreed to lead the class. So calling all men- whether you are a knitter or a crochetter- please give this new group a try. Please call to sign up. Bring any current project, and we will see where we go from there.

NOTE from Joe:

Joe would really like to do a group project.  His idea is to try felted house slippers (big felted socks).  These can easy for those who are beginners, or embellished with cables or Fair Isle to challenge those who are more advanced knitters.

Thursday April 12
10:00 - 12:00 Class with JoAnne
Next week we will be learning the linen Stitch by working on the bookmark.   Bring about 10g of sock yarn if you have some.  Also bring some size 2 needles.

Friday Mornings & Afternoons with Debra
Continuing April 6!

Debra is teaching everyone the Magic Loop technique while working on 2 socks at a time.  Any sock yarn will do!!

You will need a 40" long needle in a size that works with your chosen yarn.

In mid April, Debra will be starting toe up socks using Magic Loop!!

April socks are here!

Pat's April Socks are knit using our new Koigu along with a solid sock yarn.  Eileen;s April socks are knit out of Koigu as well: take a look!

Wednesday afternoons with Eileen

Eileen's Wednesday afternoon class (4:00 - 6:00) has chosen to work on a sampler afghan themselves!

Here is Eileen's latest square- not blocked yet, so Eileen and I are holding it out flat; but you can tell how lovely it is.  Below see some of her other squares.  This is a great long term project- join in anytime.

Focus on Encore

This weekend- take another look at ENCORE.  This is the yarn we carry in the largest stock.  It is so versatile- it can be used for any worsted weight project, except for one that felts!  Washer and dryer safe Encore is great for kids.  This weekend try this easy and super fast vest for your toddler.

Pattern is free with your purchase.  The smallest  2 sizes- for 6 - 18 months- take only 1 ball of Encore.

Charity Knitting for The Bethlehem Library

Pints 'n' Purls will be collecting knit and crocheted e-reader cozies to donate to the Bethlehem Area Public Library throughout the month of April. BAPL will sell these cozies at the library and plans to put the proceeds toward their Room To Grow initiative to add a new children's center. The charity knit-a-long kicked off Monday, April 2 at the Bethlehem Brew Works. Marielle, the PnP organizer, will be collecting cozies every Monday night at the Brew Works. We will be collecting the cozies at The Knitter's Edge as well. When handing in cozies, please be sure to include your name -- Marielle will be holding a random drawing on Monday, April 30 for a mystery prize and you get an entry for every cozy submitted. Good luck and thanks for participating!
Get you free patterns for the cozies from Marielle- or here at The Knitter's Edge. We also always have a treasure trove of charity yarns available for you to use.

From Laura Howell

Greetings, all!

I am very happy to let you all know that we will be undertaking our THIRD ANNUAL Retreat Day .  A day of Crafting &  Quiet Reflection Day. This year, we will be holding it on Monday, May 14, from 10:00-3:00. Again, the wonderfully welcoming Sisters at the St. Francis Renewal Center (Bridle Path Rd in Bethlehem) will be hosting us. There is no charge to attend this day, thanks to the Sisters' generosity. They want to thank us for the charity crafting we do throughout the year.

However, we do ask you to consider having lunch with us, and making a donation to the retreat center, which brings in a little for these generous women. Lunch is $12.00. But you are also welcome to brown-bag if you prefer--the grounds are lovely for picnic-ing in.

JoAnne from The Knitters Edge, our sponsor, will be with us. She will bring enough cotton yarn and patterns for us to make bibs (both knitted and crocheted) for the babies of the Nurse Family Partnership. I'll be there, of course, with knitting and crocheting related music and readings. There will be time to chat, and time to meditate, and time to craft together.

You MUST pre-register, so we can be sure to have room and enough supplies (we get bigger every year!). You also MUST tell us if you are planning to lunch with us, so the chef will make enough food. The lunches are always very well done, and a real treat.

Send me your name, email address or phone number, and whether or not you'll be having lunch. My email is

VERY EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL! Feel free to forward this to your crafting friends.

(The Rev.) Laura Howell

PS from JoAnne- I can also take names at The Knitters Edge- I have started a list.  Laura and I will compare lists weekly so you will not be missed or double counted.    We have had 2 very enjoyable days in the past.  I look forward to our 3rd annual retreat, knowing it will be as wonderful a day as in the past.  Please join us.

Yarn Bombing- really up high- 2500 feet above sea level- 2.6 miles from Santa Barbara, CA.- Check this out at:

Yarn Bombing in California

One of our customers passed this along:

Plans are in the works to yarn bomb a Eucalyptus Tree 2.6 miles from the trailhead on the Cold Spring Trail (East Fork) in Santa Barbara, CA. It stands approximately 2,500 feet above sea level and because it is at the edge and surrounded by low desert scrub brush, it can be seen from a distance.

For those who are concerned, no damage will be done to the tree and they have a permit under the "Visual Arts in Public Places" code from Santa Barbara.

This week I have a new idea to share.  In a couple of weeks we are planning on starting a Mystery Shawl Knit A Long.  This could be a blast.    We are waiting for our HUGE order of MadelineTosh ToshVintage to come in.  The pattern I have chosen needs a worsted weight yarn- about 425-450 yards.  Prints or solids will both work fine.  Watch for more info!

Go to The Knitters Edge group page on and post photos or comments.  Start your own thread and tell us whats going on in your class.

Also- stop by our free class next Wednesday- April 11 to learn more about finding your way through ravelry. 6:30 - 8:30 pm

What our customers are knitting...

Karen knit up these 2 spring berets.  The green one is called Springtime beret and is worked up in a worsted weight yarn from her stash.  The blue on is very similar but a bit smaller.  It is also worked in a worsted weight yarn, but at a tighter gauge.  This one she knit out of Berroco comfot.  It is called the Meret.

 Kits Available through this weekend

A new Kit is available this week:  The Easter Egg Hotpad.

This kit contains enough Fantasy Naturale Cotton to make a double stranded hotpad.  It is thick and perfect for insulating the dining room table from that Easter dinner side dish.

Another new Kit is now available-  at a very low price.

Make this cute little bunny- He's about 4" tall including his ears.  The kit contains the pattern and enough Encore Chunky to knit the bunny.

We have prepared kits in several very springlike colors.

You just need to add stuffing and size 7 double pointed needles.

Whats in the Pool?

COVINGTON-- $6.00 a hank!

Covington is an exquisite mercerized cotton from Brazil. This worsted weight beauty comes in 100g hanks.  Many beautiful designs are available for Covington.  Our pool will be full of the many colors available- all at half price!

Note:  The lace purse shown below takes only 1 hank!

As do these fingerless Mitts
