 November Knits

Fall is an ever-popular season for knitters, and with November Knits you can knit warm and stylish garments and accessories to make the season a little cozier. Popular knit designers and authors Courtney Kelley and Kate Gagnon Osborn join forces with all-star contributors, including Melissa LaBarre, Cirilia Rose, Cecily Glowik McDonald, Kristen TenDyke, and many more.

Capture the essence of fall with 23 projects that range from casual cardigans and scarves to sweet, stylish wraps and sweaters. The book is divided into three moods:

* Farm Hands is the most casual design section, filled with rustic and durable garments to shield you through afternoons in a brisk wind.
* Ivy League features sophisticated and smart knitwear, featuring bolder colors and classic styling.

* Down Home is ideal for holidays and special occasions, bringing warmth and comfort to slightly dressier garments. These patterns feature elegant knitted lace, layered and worked for warmth.

With knitted garments and accessories by expert designers, November Knits is a must-have resource.

Each Kit contains enough Fantasy Naturale and the pattern to knit your own watermelon cloth.

New Soaker Kits from Appalachian Baby

These baby pants are adorable- perfect for the eco-baby who uses real diapers. The organic wool pants are fulled- not felted.  They feel soooo soft.  In natural only, of course.

Warm Hands, Warm Gifts

Well the time has come again- for Holiday Knitting.  I know, I know, its only August.  But come November you are all yelling at me "Why didn't you start this earlier?".  So here we are, yes its only the middle of August, but it is time... so here we go!  If you need to, just think of these as great small projects- perfect for gift giving any time of year.  21 small, fast projects are headed your way- one each week starting now.

Warm Hands, Warm Gifts

Project #3

Marble Chunky

Big Scarf

Marble Chunky has been our "go-to" yarn for prayer shawls.  The colorways are so beautiful- some are soft, some bright, some manly- there is one for every recipient.  The yarn is also "easy care"- being machine washable and dryable.  Lastly- the hand... it is soft and easy to knit on the large needles it requires.  Fast to knit up, lovely to wear, easy to care for.  Trifecta!

We have a great selection of colors available in Marble Chunky.  Just one big ball is all that is needed for this scarf.

All projects for this Gift Knit and Crochet Frenzy will be quick, fun, and affordable projects.  Now through end of December- watch for 21 total project ideas- all free patterns for you to try.

Crochet Angels & Snowflakes with Anne

Anne has agreed to continue teaching a crochet class-once a month- on the 2nd Tuesday of every month- through the end of the year. Although she will focus on Thread crochet- worked with a size 6 Steel crochet hook, we can venture into other crochet areas.

We will be repeating our Snowflake & Angel class due to its popularity!!  Anne has 2 additional new snowflake patterns available!

Its time to try some thread crochet with Anne. The ultimate project is the angel, but we will start with the snowflake.  Patterns will be provided as well as the ring for the angel's head and the ribbon for around the angel's neck. You will need 1 ball of Cebelia crochet cotton and a size  5 or 6 steel crochet hook. Beginner and intermediate crochetters encouraged to attend.

Thursdays in September

JoAnne's Washcloth class becomes a shawl class

We have so much fun making shawls occasionally in this Thursday morning class- so we are going to start another.

The Sleeveheart shawl will teach us a couple of new stitches- definitely a new cast on.

This shawlette would look wonderful in either Silky Wool or Manos Silk Blend.

For a change of pace- maybe try our new Acadia- oh what a lovely tweedy look that will yield!

Tuesday August 21- 6:30 - 8:30pm

Jans entire class has chosen to make our Warm Hands Warm Gifts Project #1- the Kogarashi Shrug.  This is knit on size 13 needles with 2 hanks of Kogarashi- a wool/ silk blend which is on sale at 30% off!

Since Jan can't work with wool, she has decided to make her shrug with Patagonia- the 100% cotton in the pool this week.  You will need 3 hanks of Patagonia- and it's on sale at more than 30% off!

The Pattern will be free.  The magazine contains another great sweater pattern that you can make as well called Directional Ribs.  It knits up in a worsted weight yarn.

New classes just keep on coming!

Remember, in our classes-you can always do your own thing!

All regular classes are $6.00- Cash only please.

General Knitting classes - work on your own project if you wish! When you are a class member- we welcome you to return at any time for additional assistance. We will always help any knitter get through any project- we are great at hand holding, while encouraging you to move forward in your knitting knowledge.

For classes, we hope that your yarn supplies will be purchased at our shop.

What are our customers knitting?

Laura's Nemo hat.  Join Debra on any Monday or Friday to work on this great little Fish hat.  This is an easy knit and can be made to fit any head size.  Make the fish a dead fish or very alive (as is Nemo here!)

Our most productive knitter is at it again!  Loretta has finished her Crossover bag- a felted bag pattern from Lauren Loeffler.

Loretta has already signed up for Lauren's next class- on the evening of  Wednesday, September 16 to embellish her bag with some needle felting.  Sign up for Lauren's class now and look for more info on it in a newsletter next week.

The class will be Wednesday September 16-- 6:30 - 8:30 for felted bags (her Pumpkin bag too) and needle felting.  There will also be a follow-up class in October.

Crochet Hook VS The Recliner

  The recliner won...

Starting August 21- Linda Miller will be leading our newest KAL- The Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig.  This cardi is softly draping in the front for that "effortless look".  This is a top down design- worked in a Dk weight yarn at a slightly larger gauge than normal.   Several of our lighter worsted weight yarns can be used as well to give a slightly heavier weight sweater.

The sizing goes up to 50+".

We have the pattern available at the shop.  Stop by to see what wonderful yarns (including some new ones) we have for you to chose from.

We have many more Knitbot designs- a large number of them use yarns at more open gauges than normal for the yarns. This gives the garment more drape.

What's new?

A new crochet hook set from Tulip.  Each hook has an ergonomic handle that is OH! SO soft.  A very nice quality set.

Eileen's Baby Sweater

Eileen took some Jeannee DK and this Lisa Knits pattern and created an adorable baby sweater- shown here on her Grandaughter Mattingly (before sleeves) and on the manequin complete.  You can join Eileen to make your own baby flower.

 Yarn:  Jeannee DK

 Pattern by Lisa Knits

 Knitter:  Grammy Eileen

A luxury yarn developed specifically for babies. A machine washable blend of merino wool and silk that has a wonderful soft handle for your little treasures.

But not only for babies- this yarn is perfect for the new KAL- the Effortless Caridgan.

Check out the colors in this new Rowan yarn: Baby Merino Silk DK

We decided that the new Gradient will look wonderful in the shawlette 198 Yards of Heaven.  The yardage is just right.  This is a pattern that makes for a great first lace shawl project.  There's a lot of learning here, but still a quick enough project.

If you love Zauberball, get ready to do backflips for Gradient! It comes in the same charming ball and has the same slow color repeats, but it knits to a much larger gauge. It is a slightly felted 100% wool single, like Pur, that will resist pilling. Use it for accessories, sweaters and whatever else your imagination can conjure up.  Tremendous yardage.

This Gradient Basketweave Cowl, uses a mere 1 ball of Gradient.  The color changes are so slowly drifting throughout the length of the cowl.  This free pattern is available with your yarn purchase.

Now this hat is a cutie!   Worked all in the round, first in garter st, then in stockinette.   The garter st section is worked with a trick- you wrap and turn after each row so you never have to purl.

The I- cord at the top is created with the same yarn, just from a different part of the color drift.  Pattern free with yarn purchase.

Where are You Knitting at?

I would like to start a new feature in the newsletter- perfect for this summer:  Where are you knitting at?

Send me a photo of you and your knitting while on your vacation.  Share your good knitting time with those of us stuck at home.  And if you are taking a Staycation- send me those photos too!  Show us all what summer knitting can be!

I am so pleased that so many of you have been sending me photos from your vacations.  I will continue sharing photos for the rest of the month- What a wonderful way to show the world and the world of knitting!

Here is our own Jen at a local favorite vacation fun spot- Hershey Park!  Glad to see shehad her knitting with her- hope it didn't get wet on those water rides!

Sandy went to Michigan for vacation this summer and spent some knitting time with the motorheads on the 2012 Dream Cruise.

Process vs Product

On our discussion board on our ravelry group page- many have posted their thoughts on Process vs Product.

Oh I have so been enjoying these answers. It does seem that for most of us- at least the ones who have answered- its process. I love that in that it fits in so well with my idea of what my yarn shop should be- a place of learning.

But there are times when the product is the important thing- such as when you just find out that a friend's daughter had her baby a month early- and a fast little blanket or sweater is in order. Quick usually means simple, but I try to make even those simple quick things fun too- with a bit of learning in there somewhere whenever possible.

Thank you all for answering.
