 Nov 22- Yarn Tasting

Our yarn tasting is tonight!!

If you are signed up- please remember to bring

needles and hooks- in several sizes  as there are many yarns to try!

What is a yarn tasting?

It's like a wine tasting, but with yarn. You bring your own hooks or needles and get to sample a variety of different yarns. Some might be new to you, some might be old favorites that you are revisiting. Either way, it's a great opportunity to test run some new yarns before you commit to enough for a project.

There will be refeshments, plus free patterns and yarn.  This is a must attend event!

When:  November 22, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Cost:  $10.00 cash at the door.

Please join us- I assure you it will be an enjoyable evening.

Bus Trip to Vogue Knitting Live

On Saturday January 18, 2014 Beiber Tourways is running a trip to Vogue Knitting Live in NYC.  The Knitter's Edge has pretty much filled the bus- so much so that they are now adding a second bus!  Please call Nancy at Beiber  soon because she will be ordering the tickets soon for the event.

This is a great opportunity to spend the day in NYC seeing several fashion shows, meeting the designers, and seeing the latest yarns

& fashions. (You can even go shopping in New York!)

The Knitter's Edge is not chartering this trip, but many of us will be attending.  We are all so excited!

Call Nancy for more details at Beiber Tourways-

 Holiday Showcase of Patterns

Holiday Showcase

Pattern #12

SIlky Wool Scarf

Silky Wool is a tweedy blend of Silk and Wool- in a DK weight twist.  If you have never worked with Silky wool- you are missing something wonderful.  The textured hand is my favorite aspect of this yarn.  The look it creates is rustic in nature yet soft on the skin.

This 3 color side- to- side scarf is a very easy knit, requiring just one hank each of 3 colors.  With the multitude of colors we have available- the number of choices are almost endless.

This week Silky Wool is on sale 10% off!

We have many other patterns available for Silky Wool such as

Meliai Shawl

Triangle Shawl

Silky Wool 10% off this week- sale ends Monday Nov 25

All of the free Holiday Showcase patterns will produce projects that are quick, easy and affordable knits.

 Ravelry-  The In Store Program

Ravelry Patterns

We are now set up with an account allowing us to sell certain patterns available on Ravelry.  When you purchase a pattern through us we will print it out for you on the spot and present it to you in its own plastic sleeve.  I am amazed at how many patterns are available through this program and how many more are being added each day.

For today, several designs I found interesting.

A deceptively easy knit, this pattern would make a great travel project for experienced knitters and a good lace project for adventurous beginners!

Yarn Suggestions:

Rialto Lace or Findley.

Another stylish hat in the same vein as Quincy.  This is an easy knit!  Work it up in a chunky weight yarn and add 3 spectacular buttons for accent.

Yarn Suggestions:

Encore Chunky, Blackthorne, Peru.

Vintage Bordeaux

A dynamite crescent shawl with a double scalloped lace edging- Like pouring a second glass of wine- it seems just right.

Yarn Suggestions:

Any beautiful fingering weight yarn such as Madelinetosh tosh merino light.

Lace Tannenbaum

A fast and lovely knitted lace tree ornament knitted from the tip to the trunk in garter stitch using any lace or fingering weight yarn.  This knits up so quickly you'll find yourself making these for everyone including yourself!  Beads can be placed randomly for added sparkle and character!   Yarn Suggestions:  Algarve cotton

A DK weight child's pullover with front placket and seam color accents.  This simple garter stitch sweater is all about color choices.

Yarn Suggestions:

DK Merino Superwash is my first choice!

We appreciate you purchasing your Ravelry patterns with us.

All of the patterns shown here are part of the In-Store Ravelry program on the day this newsletter was released.

 Ravelry Free Patterns Too

Ravelry is a great place to find free patterns too.

This week I found some good ones that I want to share with you.

Augustine Cowl

The Augustine cowl is a free pattern to use with Chalet- a supersoft superlight baby Alpaca from Classic Elite.  This cowl will feel so cosy around your neck.

Not Only Christmas Hat

The Not Only Christmas Hat is a very simple hat with a long tail and big pompom.  Pattern is written for baby sizes through adults.

For this hat you can use just one color or as many as you want (it's a good design to use your left over yarns).  Yarn Suggestion:  Dreambaby DK or Snuggly DK.

Advent Calendar Scarf-Please Look, Eileen is planning on this project for January

Please, Please, Please!!! take a look at this one:  The new KAL for the 2013 Advent Scarf is going up next Sunday Dec 1-

This is the 4th Advent scarf in the series and the other 3 are still available as free patterns.  These scarves are sampler types- one lace stitch pattern for each of 24 days before Christmas.  You must check this one out.  I think this project is a job for Eileen!!  Uses Lace weight or Fingering weight yarn.

 Ask Me A Question

I'm going to make an infinity scarf and need to use a provisional  cast on.

Would it be better to bind off using a three-needle bind off or the Kitchener stitch and why?

Usually a provisional cast on is used when an invisible join is desired at the end.  This invisible join would best be accomplished by using the Kitchener stitch.

But if a seamless invisible join is not required, as would be the case if the wrong side will not be seen, then a 3 needle bind off seam can be used.  Another benefit of the 3 needle bind off is that it creates a far stronger join then the Kitchener stitch and may also be needed at a seam requiring strength.
